To set up your alerts correctly is essential to get the most accurate results in Mention. The first and most important step is to choose carefully the keywords that you want to monitor. After this, you will have to set the social accounts you want to track, and choose the sources, languages and, countries from which you want to receive your mentions.
If you don’t know how to create an alert or how to edit an existing alert, you can visit the following articles:
Your alert’s keywords
To set up your alert, you can choose up to 5 keywords.
A keyword can be one or several words (eg: "coca cola" or “cola”). The system is not case sensitive but it is space and accent sensitive
Case-sensitive: "coca cola" and "Coca Cola" will give you the same results
Space-sensitive: “coca cola” and “CocaCola” will not give you the same results
Accent-sensitive: “cóca còla” and “coca cola” will not give you the same results
In the case of monitoring a brand or product, we recommend adding the different way people talk about it. For example, including the common ways of misspelling and variations will maximize the chances to get all mentions about your brand.
ie. For the application 1 password, I would add as "Optional keywords":
By doing so, Mention will look for any of these variations
Optional, Required and Excluded keywords
Depending on your needs, you can also use different keyword rules: the optional keywords, the required keywords and excluded keywords. Here is how each type works:
Optional keywords: If any of those keywords appear in a content, it will appear in your results. Meaning, the optional keywords work as an “OR”
Required keywords: If all of those keywords appear in a content, it will appear in your results. Meaning, the required keywords work as an “AND”
Excluded keywords: If any of those keywords appear in the mention, it will not appear in your results. Be careful and don’t exclude words that are too generic or you might miss relevant mentions!" Meaning the excluded keywords work as a “NOT”
By combining the different keywords rules, You can potentialize your results
Let's take an example:
With the structure above, Mention will find every content that includes the word "marketing" and that also includes either "startup" or "start-up" or "start up". However, the mentions that also include "finance" will be ignored.
When considering adding hashtags to an alert, know that we consider them the same as words, so "#marketing" will bring the same results as "marketing". Therefore, you don't need to include the "#" in the keywords of your alert.
The monitored pages allow you to track specific websites, social accounts and review sites.
Adding a website will allow to:
- If you select "include own posts", you will receive all the content from this website even if the content doesn't match your keywords. This can be useful to track a competitor.
- If you don't select "include own posts", all the content from this website will be excluded even if it matches your keywords. It can be useful if you track your brand not to be spammed by your own content.
Adding a Twitter profile will us to collect every tweet mentioning your profile with @mention. If you select "include own post", it will also collect all the posts published by this profile. It can be useful to track a competitor
When adding a Facebook page, you have two available options:
- If you select Include own posts, you will receive all the content from this Facebook page even if the content doesn't match your keywords.
- If you selecting Include own comments, you will receive all the content from this Facebook page even if the content doesn't match your keywords.
You can add review sites to get every new review published about your brand or product.
The review sites that Mention monitors are Booking, Yelp, Trip Advisor, Google business, Amazon, Trustpilot, and Custplace.
Note: In the boolean alerts, we support more than 70 review sites.
