When building a new Alert in Mention, it is important to create an accurate search that fetches the data you want to see. The key to a successful alert is balance. You want to make sure that your alert captures the general conversations of the topics you are interested in without being too specific.

With that being said, Mention's built-in Preview panel will support you during alert creation by providing you with a glimpse of the expected amount of mentions you will receive for your alert.

In this article, we will go over the Mention Preview and how to access it in your alert.

Mention Preview - Configuration

The Mention Preview is a side-panel that appears in your Alert during alert creation or alert editing:

The Preview will provide you with:

  • The estimated number of mentions that you might receive across 30 days.

  • A short list of example websites that you might typically fetch during the month.

⚙️ The Preview panel will display data from the last 30 days to give you an estimate of your mentions. When you open the Preview, Mention will review data from our database to populate the information you see.

Whenever you modify your alert, the preview will refresh and update in real-time. Modifications include:

  • Adjusting the keywords in your search boxes

  • Blocking sources and websites

The Preview will help you understand your search query by telling you if your configuration is too broad or specific. You can use the preview as an indicator of quota consumption as well. If you notice that your alert will consume too much quota, please re-structure the keywords or contact us for further assistance!

In the next section, we will go over the Preview panel for each Alert type.

Basic Alert

In the Basic Alert, the Preview panel will appear in the Keywords tab. On the right-hand side, you will see the Alert Assistant and the Mentions Preview.

To access the Preview, please click on the Mentions Preview tab and click on the Preview button:

Whenever you modify your query or sources in the alert, please click on the Preview button to refresh your Mention Preview. You're all set from there!

⚙️ The Mention Preview will take into account the following configurations:

  • Keywords: If you modify the keywords or phrases in your alert, the preview will update.

  • Sources: If you block a source, the preview will update automatically.

  • Countries & Languages: if you apply a country or language filter, the preview will take this into account.

The Preview will not take into account Monitored Pages.

❗The Preview is based on data from the last 30 days which means it can be influenced by external factors. For example, if you are monitoring a brand and they recently experienced a brand crisis, the preview might display large number of potential mentions that will be fetched.
