Enable multi-factor security measures for your Mention account

If you would like enhanced security on your Mention Account, you can enable Two-Factor Authentication (2FA) through your Account settings. Activating 2FA on your account will implement an added layer of protection for your Mention account and data. In this article, we will show you how to:

❗️If you are on a Mention Team subscription and your teammates would like to enable 2FA as well, they must do so when they login to their individual accounts. Enabling 2FA for one account does not enable it for the entire team.


Activate Two-Factor Authentication

To enable this security measure, you can go to the Account tab in your Settings. If you scroll to the bottom of this page, the tab for 2FA will appear! From there, please refer to the steps below to complete the process:

1. Click on 'Enable Multi-Factor Authentication':

2. Password Verification:

Once you click on the button, you will be prompted to type in your Mention password first to make sure the system confirms your identity.

3. Add your phone number and recovery email:

Once you confirm your Mention password, you will be granted access to two new options: enable phone number and recovery email address.

❗️You will need to complete both fields in order to turn on the 2FA in your Account.

  • Phone Number: Here, please add your mobile phone number (including your country code). Once it is added, Mention will send you an SMS text with a code to validate the phone number. Mention will use your phone number to send you SMS codes every time you login to your Account on a new device.

  • Recovery Email: Here, please add the email you would like for the 2FA. Mention will email you a code to confirm your email. The recovery email will be used if you cannot access your Mention Account due to forgotten password or the phone number on file is not active.

Once these steps are completed, Two-Factor Authentication will be set on your Account! When you refresh your Account, you will see a confirmation notice on the 2FA section of the page:


Update or Disable Two-Factor Authentication

If you want to make edits to your 2FA settings, you can go to your Account settings to make adjustments! First, you will need to re-type your password and then the page will display the option to update or disable 2FA! Here, you can change the information on file or completely remove 2FA from your account.
